Getting Started

How do I scan a receipt?

Tap the camera button on the home screen to take a photo of your receipt, or choose an existing photo from your library. Boris will read the receipt and pull out all the line items automatically.

What kinds of receipts does Boris support?

Boris works with most printed restaurant receipts. For best results, lay the receipt flat on a surface and make sure the full receipt is in frame with good lighting. Crumpled or partially obscured receipts may not scan as accurately.

Splitting the Bill

How does Boris calculate my share?

After scanning, tap the items you ordered. Boris adds up your items and then calculates your proportional share of tax, tip, and any other charges (like service fees) based on your subtotal relative to the table's total. So if you ordered 30% of the food, you pay 30% of the extras — not a flat split.

What if I shared a dish with someone?

Boris handles shared dishes. When selecting your items, you can split any item between multiple people and Boris will divide the cost evenly.

Can I split the bill with a group?

Yes. Boris lets you assign items to different people in your group and shows everyone's individual total so settling up is straightforward.

Troubleshooting

Boris didn't read my receipt correctly. What do I do?

AI-powered receipt scanning is accurate but not perfect — handwritten receipts, unusual formatting, or low-quality photos can sometimes cause errors. You can always edit any item directly after scanning by tapping on it. You can also ask Boris to reprocess the receipt by clicking the "Refresh" arrow in the top right.

The app crashed or something isn't working.

Try closing and reopening the app. If the problem persists, email us at [email protected] with a description of what happened and what device you're using, and we'll sort it out.
